Why we’re paying attention

MachineWare is a 2022 spin-off from the RWTH Aachen institute that has sat at the center of virtual prototyping for almost fifty years. We’re telling the story in two parts — the history that explains why it matters, and the architecture that explains why it fits the next era of chip design — with the practical, action-oriented pieces to follow.

What MachineWare builds

A small, sharp, deliberately interoperable suite — fast by construction, open where it counts.

FTL
The retargetable JIT engine. The speed core beneath everything.
SIM-V
High-speed RISC-V instruction-set simulator with a custom-instruction SDK.
SIM-A
High-speed Arm Cortex-A and Cortex-M simulation on the same engine.
VCML
Open-source SystemC TLM-2.0 modeling library — the interoperability play, in the open.
QBox
QEMU-in-a-SystemC-Box — QEMU models in any SystemC TLM-2.0 platform.
inSCight
Profiling built for SystemC virtual platforms. A category of one.

More to come

Two practical pieces land later this month as part of the MachineWare launch — the case for putting a modern virtual platform at the center of your flow.

Coming this month
Why You Should Consider MachineWare
The practical case: where a faster, open, extensible virtual platform changes the economics of a custom-silicon program — and how to know if it’s right for your team.
Coming this month
The Virtual Platform at the Center of Your Flow
From firmware bring-up to continuous integration to AI-in-the-loop — what it looks like to put the substrate to work, day to day.

Want the deeper briefing?

We represent MachineWare as part of the AI Tech Sales portfolio mapped across the EDA 3.0 lifecycle. If you’re navigating virtual prototyping, pre-silicon software enablement, or custom-silicon bring-up, we’re happy to talk — engineer to engineer.
